The Rose Hotel
A Heritage Hospitality Revival in Bunbury
The Rose Hotel is one of Bunbury’s most recognisable landmarks, a heritage-listed building with over 150 years of history at the heart of the community. Our refurbishment design set out to breathe new life into the venue while preserving its historic charm, ensuring it remains a social hub for locals and a drawcard for visitors.
Respecting History, Enhancing Experience
Working within the hotel’s heritage framework, we carefully restored original architectural features — from the façade’s detailed masonry to the internal timber elements — while subtly introducing contemporary design elements to improve comfort, functionality, and visual appeal.
Creating a Series of Distinct Spaces
The design reimagines the Rose Hotel as a multi-experience venue, offering a mix of restored heritage dining rooms, a refreshed public bar, and vibrant outdoor spaces. The interiors use a warm, layered material palette that complements the building’s period details while supporting the operational needs of a modern hospitality venue.
Connection to Community
Outdoor areas were designed to encourage year-round use, with improved landscaping, shaded seating, and a seamless connection between the indoor spaces and Bunbury’s active street life. The result is a venue that not only honours the hotel’s past but also strengthens its role as a meeting place for the community.
The refurbishment of the Rose Hotel reflects Benson Bailey Studio’s commitment to heritage-sensitive design, crafting spaces that are welcoming, operationally robust, and rich with the character that only comes from decades of stories.
